Grande COMORE : The Karthala, an unknown volcano ?

April 16, 2005 on the island of Grande Comore, the Karthala volcano wakes up after 14 years of sleep. The consequences of this are catastrophic eruption: water well and part of the island are overgrown with ash.

The Laboratory of Earth Sciences of the University of Reunion Island, in collaboration with the Observatory of Karthala Volcanological, implement scientific missions to understand the operation of this volcano and prevent breakouts.
